A Forgotten Love

What is wisdom? I don't seek the definition that ends all debate, I just am looking for something that works.
How about "wisdom is the art and science of living well." I'll take that. Living well.
Why isn't wisdom our top priority? Why isn't living well something we are obsessed over? We are so preoccupied with FACETS of living well, such as physical health, a good education, a pleasing bank account balance, a strong faith, etc. But how often do we meditate on LIVING WELL as an entire being?
In my opinion, it's because we don't care about the practice that leads a person to living well: philosophy.
Now, before you zone out and fall asleep on me, just listen for a moment. What is philosophy?
Philosophy, etymologically (in the Greek), is simply the "love of wisdom." What is wisdom? Living well. Put those two things together...
Philosophy is the love of living well.
What have we done? We've lost our love for living well; we've lost our desire to philosophize. The result? We live in a world that doesn't know how to live well because it doesn't care to practice the discipline that leads a person to do so.
Philosophy is not for the ivory towers tucked away with all the "smart" people. Philosophy is about WISDOM, and therefore is about LIVING. How can we live a complete, full life if we don't give ourselves to studying and practicing philosophy? Philosophy may be the most practical activity a person may ever do.
Do you want to live well? Then rediscover this love for life.
